It was a good decision to shoot in the winter because it gave character to the movie. But it put us under more pressure, too, because there were fewer hours of daylight. It was cold, and the weather was quite changeable. But it was beautiful. - Viggo Mortensen

"In 'Lord of the Rings' we were working together for years so there was a bond created. One of the skills he had to learn for the film was beekeeping. 'We got to make honey,' he says, smiling. 'I have one jar left. It's pretty good. What was surprising ? and what probably distracted me from the fear of being stung ? was the noise. One bee buzzing close to your head is quite loud, but imagine thousands. Your world closes off and you become very focused on what you're doing, because you can't really hear what other people are saying.'

Javier Godino recalled some anecdotes experienced by the crew during the shooting in Argentina, a crew that Viggo Mortensen took care "to transform into a family" through his love for San Lorenzo de Almagro´s soccer team, he said.
"The first day, Viggo arrived and hung up a San Lorenzo pennant. That's the way it started, little by little, and then he brought a pennant from Tigre and later the one from Boca. In the end, he filled the entire wall with jerseys from all the teams from Argentina, but also from Real Madrid, Barcelona and Uruguay. And this has been the only thing that succeeded in uniting everybody."

We shot one of the twins in Tigre first, then we shot the other scenes in the city, then the scene with 'both'. It was good for Viggo to shoot in this way, because when they met each other on screen he felt he really knew both brothers. And that was important because without Viggo's understanding of both brothers, the movie wouldn't have held up.

'The scenes where I play both brothers together were technically complicated to make because at some points I had to talk to empty space. We'd film a shot and then, without moving the camera, two or three days later, when I hadn't shaved and had a different 'look' to play the character of the other brother, I had to play the part of the brother I'd been talking to three days before - that is to say me, talking to myself, but talking to empty space.'

'I didn't want to have happen what happens most of the time in movies I've seen with identical twins, where it just looks like a stunt and you can't keep your mind off the fact that it's just one actor and it's just a trick. In this case I think it genuinely feels like they're different people with two different personalities, and I think it was helpful that we shot all of that at the end, after we'd shot all the scenes of them separately. So I knew them each separately quite well.'
