We do not want churches because they
will teach us to quarrel about God, as
the Catholics and Protestants do. We do
not want to learn about that.

We may quarrel with men sometimes
about things on this earth. But we
never quarrel about God. We do not
want to learn that.
Chief Joseph

We have frequently printed the word Democracy,
yet I cannot too often repeat that it is a word the
real gist of which still sleeps, quite unawakened,
notwithstanding the resonance and the many angry
tempests out of which its syllables have come, from
pen or tongue. It is a great word, whose history,
I suppose, remains unwritten, because that history
has yet to be enacted.
Walt Whitman

Keep a journal. Pay so much honour to the visits of truth

_______________

Learning acquired in youth arrests the evil of old age;
and if you understand that old age has wisdom for its food,
you will so conduct yourself in youth that your old age
will not lack for nourishment.
Leonardo Da Vinci

Writing is the spoils of living; it is reporting what we saw after the vision has left us; or, more familiarly, it is catching the fish which the tide has left far up on our shores in the low and depressed places. We can only say a thing after it has become detached from us and passes from an unconscious active power of the soul, to a conscious tangible formula of the intellect. Our thoughts are our feelings gone to seed.
John Burroughs
